How they built and operationalized an enterprise-grade integrated analytics platform on a cloud-based data lake

Leveraging PaaS to Build an Enterprise Data Lake and Analytics Platform

Asurion is a leader in technology protection services and the business operates in the intersection of consumer devices, mobile technologies and IoT. Analytics forms the backbone for its products, services and competitive advantage. Analytics for us is not isolated silos of reporting, dashboards, predictive and Big Data analytics, but a series of rich models that emerge when we combine all data within the enterprise.

With our enterprise data currently at 3 Petabyte and growing at over 2 Petabyte every year, there is an urgency to manage data volume from diverse sources, and to efficiently mine rich, timely insights from it. A data lake architecture for transactional, operational, and reference data, built on a cloud-hosted platform, was our solution for our needs, but it also came with its own challenges.

In his session at 18th Cloud Expo, Ramanujam Rao will focus on how they built and operationalized an enterprise-grade integrated analytics platform on a cloud-based data lake, using Hadoop, Spark, Hive, Parquet and Storm, while also leveraging out-of-box functionality from AWS, such as Kinesis, Redshift and EMR. A platform serving all enterprise needs, from reporting/BI/dashboards, customer hub, to predictive modeling.

He will also discuss challenges building a production system at scale, including design choices for ingestion, integration with enterprise data, PII encryption, APIs, data governance, access control and visualization by business users.
